Pop the tape into the machine, crank up the volume and get ready for The Nancy Simmonds Band.
Originally from London, Ontario, NANCY SIMMONDS has been an active part of the Toronto music community for over a decade.
NANCY was first discovered in the early seventies by producer Bob Johnson and has made her living as a performer and a songwriter since then.
A three year deal with CHAPPELL MUSIC saw NANCY shuttling between Los Angeles, Nashville and Toronto, writing songs for such diverse artists as: Melissa Manchester, Quebec superstar Veronique Beliveau, TV rocker Adrian Zmed and Jackson Browne alumnus Rosemary Butler.
"NANCY is a wonderful songwriter and a beautiful singer. Her music comes straight from the heart."
Christopher Ward of Much Music, November, 1985
The music is generated by a band that has worked with NANCY since 1982. Pukka Orchestra guitar wizard, NEIL CHAPMAN and drummer RANDALL CORYELL team up with EVELYNE DATL on keyboards and former Jackson Hawke bass guitarist GENE FALBO. NANCY plays rhythm guitar and additional keyboards.
".......There's a reason to believe her time has come. SIMMONDS' band has polished her songs to a tough, steely sheen. They sound like hits. And there's probably not a better rock 'n roll band in metro right now."
Greg Quill, Toronto Star, August 1984
Lou Reed veteran MICHAEL FONFARA adds keyboards on "That Boy" and Journeyman sax player JODY GOLICK lends his skills on "Hear YOu On The Radio". Background vocals are provided by SHIRLEY EIKHARD, CHERI CAMP, GWEN SWICK and NANCY.
Producer MARK STAFFORD has crafted the solid material and stellar performances into a dynamic, highly commercial record. The recording and mixing took place in May, June and July of 1985 at Toronto's SOUNDS INTERCHANGE.
Turn up the volume a couple of notches and give a good listen to THE NANCY SIMMONDS BAND.
